Who: All skill levels welcome (but we will have optional fundamental exercises).
What: FREE Short Story Writing Workshop
When: Every OTHER Monday | September 10 - November 19 | 7pm-9pm (11 weeks, 6 meeting total)
Where: Makara Center for the Arts - 811 N Main St., Santa Ana, CA 92701
How: Email firstname.lastname@example.org for an orientation sheet and/or to sign up.
This is an MFA-style writing workshop where every meeting we will come prepared, having read a participant's short story and printed out a 1 page written critique their work. Writers must sign up to have their work discussed on a specific date and bring their story to the meeting BEFORE that date so everyone has time (2 weeks) to read & respond to their work.
Stories must be 10 pages maximum, double spaced, with 1 inch margins.
This time, we will have optional, short, one page exercises on character, plot, setting, etc. to be completed before every meeting, in addition to the one-page feedback you'll be writing for the writer of the week.
Every iteration of this workshop is different, so forget what you heard about it last time. Yes, it's still a short story workshop, but if you reeeaallly need to show us your novel, then fine bring it on, but we can only take 10 pages at a time!
Please note this is a minor, 11-week (6 meetings) commitment that requires genuine interest in developing yourself as a writer and respect for the hard work of others in the workshop.
There are 12 spots available (two writers for each meeting). Email email@example.com to receive a detailed orientation sheet or to reserve your spot.
